Stereospecificity of enzymatic transamination of γ-aminobutyrate

Abstract

The stereospecific removal of the 4-pro-R-hydrogen of γ-aminobutyrate (GABA) has been demonstrated with a bacterial ω-amino acid : pyruvate aminotrasferase, while stereospecific removal of the 4-pro-S- hydrogen has been demonstrated with α-oxoglutarate requiring bacterial GABA transaminase.
