Nanomaterial-based SERS sensing technology for biomedical application

Abstract

Over the past few years, nanomaterial-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection has emerged as a new exciting field in which theoretical and experimental studies of the structure and function of nanomaterials have become a focus. The importance of different dimensional nanomaterials has begun to be recognized, especially in the fundamental development of SERS sensing detection for biomedical application. Great advances have been and are being made in different dimensional nanomaterial-based SERS technology with enormous prospects in clinical medicine applications. Herein we review some of the main advances in this field over the past few years, explore the application prospects, and discuss the concepts, issues, approaches and challenges, with the aim of stimulating broader interest in developing nanomaterial-based SERS sensing applications for medical theranostics.
