Electrospinning nanofiber technology: a multifaceted paradigm in biomedical applications
Abstract
Nanofibres are gaining significant popularity in biomedical applications. Advancement of electrospinning setup and collector design has led to the use of nanofibers in biomedical applications such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, drug delivery/drug targeting, cell therapy, gene delivery and cancer therapy. The range of applications includes sensor technology, catalysis, filtration, optoelectronics, tissue engineering scaffolds, wound fiber composites, drug release and delivery systems, protective clothes and many more. This review focuses on the process of preparation of nanofibers via Es, the design and setup of the instrument, critical parameters, preferable polymers, solvents, characterization techniques, and recent development and biomedical applications of nanofibers.
