A review of polymers in sulfide-based hybrid solid-state electrolytes for all-solid-state lithium batteries
Abstract
Sulfide-based all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) are considered to be at the forefront of next-generation rechargeable batteries owing to their high ionic conductivity comparable to commercialized organic liquid electrolytes. Nonetheless, substantial considerations on air and electrochemical instability impede their practical feasibility and still require further investigations as single-component solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) hardly satisfy the performance criterion for commercialization. Rigorous studies on the hybridization of sulfide SSEs with other components to address their demerits have garnered significant interest in research. However, there have been limited studies on employing polymer binders in sulfide SSEs. In this article, the authors give an overview of the current issues and developments on sheet-type sulfide-based SSEs, highlighting the advantages of sulfide SSEs, among others, and discussing the fabrication of sheet-type sulfide SSEs. Finally, the authors provide a perspective on utilizing polymer binders in sulfide SSE systems and discuss future advancements in hybridized sheet-type SSEs and polymers.
