Perovskite nanogels: synthesis, properties, and applications

Abstract

Metal halide perovskite nanogels have recently arisen as a new Frontier in materials science and have drawn worldwide attention for various promising applications, such as photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, lasing, photodetectors, sensing, and imaging. Their optical, excitonic, optoelectronic, and charge transport properties can be finely tuned by changing the crystal composition and structure, doping with other metal ions, and employing diverse synthesis approaches for obtaining different morphologies. In this review, we focus on the recent progresses in the wet-chemistry synthesis of perovskite nanogels with typical morphologies. In particular, the synthesis of nanocubes, nanowires, nanoplatelets, and microdisks are discussed in detail. Moreover, lead-free perovskite nanogels are also summarized. Furthermore, the latest progresses made in promising applications of perovskite nanogels are also described. Finally, based on the comprehensive understanding of the mechanism of perovskite-related devices, the outlook for future research and main challenges faced by perovskite nanogels are further addressed.
