Five-membered carbocycle construction in the synthesis of Daphniphyllum alkaloids: recent strategic and methodological advances

Abstract

As the key structural unit, five-membered carbocycles are widely found in the framework of natural products. Among these molecules, Daphniphyllum alkaloids are particularly intriguing targets for synthetic chemists owing to their complex structures and interesting bioactivity. Within extensive synthetic studies of these alkaloids, various strategies and methods have been utilized for the construction of all carbon five-membered rings. Besides the classics, in this review we would like to focus on the novel or relatively rarely used strategies and methods for the five-membered carbocycle construction in recent Daphniphyllum alkaloid synthesis, covering from January 2017 to August 2022.
