Research progress on quadruple perovskite oxides

Abstract

Recently, the remarkable physical characteristics of AA3′B4O12 quadruple perovskite oxides, including their enormous magnetoresistance, gigantic dielectric constants, charge/orbital/magnetic ordering, spin-induced ferroelectricity, and ferrimagnetic half-metallicity, have attracted significant attention. Nowadays, a wide variety of quadruple perovskite oxides have been prepared at high temperature and pressure as high as 10 GPa. Nevertheless, the large-scalebulk synthesis of quadruple perovskite oxides at ambient pressure is crucial for practical use. In this direction, quadruple perovskite oxides have experienced rapid growth in the last few years. Herein, we provide a comprehensive review of the recent progress on quadruple perovskite oxides, methodically summarizing their synthetic procedures and structural characterization, elucidating their intriguing physical properties, and discussing their potential applications across diverse technological and scientific domains. Furthermore, we also present a summary of theoretical studies on the structural and electrical properties of quadruple perovskite oxides. Finally, we conclude by giving some perspectives on quadruple perovskite oxides. It is expected that this comprehensive review will enrich the comprehension and propel advanced research on quadruple perovskite oxides.
