Metal halide perovskites for photocatalysis applications

Abstract

Metal halide perovskite materials have made a significant breakthrough in diverse research fields over the last decade because of their high photoelectric conversion capability. However, there is a lack of an extensive and in-depth overview that covers photocatalytic water splitting, CO2 reduction, pollutant degradation, and organic synthesis based on metal halide perovskite materials. Herein, the basic physical and chemical properties of perovskite materials are briefly introduced first. And perovskite materials with different compositions are discussed according to their research classification of hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites, all-inorganic perovskites, and lead-free perovskites, respectively. Moreover, we summarize the recent progress of perovskite-based heterostructures in enhancing photocatalytic performance. Finally, some challenges and prospects for perovskite material-based photocatalysts are critically reviewed. This work will provide valuable reference for the rational utilization of halide perovskite materials with ameliorated performances and particularly drive the further application of perovskite-based photocatalysts towards varieties of artificial photoredox reactions.
