A double-stranded dinuclear cadmium(II) helicate that assembles into chains in the solid state

A [4+4] double-stranded cadmium dihelicate was afforded from an easily accessible thiosemicarbazone ligand; its crystal structure reveals the assembly of two enantiomers into dihelicate pairs, these pairs being further connected into infinite linear chains.

Condensed heterometallic bidimensional mixed valence CuI/CuII/NiII cyanidometallate

A 2D coordination network, [Cu2Ni(dien)(μ-CN)5]n (1), built up from fused [Ni(CN)4]2− and [Cu(CN)3]2− cyanidometallate anions and [Cu(dien)]2+ entities is reported.

Supercritical carbon dioxide, a new medium for aerobic alcohol oxidations catalysed by copper-TEMPO

The aerobic oxidation of alcohols, catalysed by copper complexes in combination with TEMPO, was carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The solubility of the copper complex in scCO2 was shown not to affect the rate of catalysis, with equally high conversions achieved employing both catalyst complexes with no detectable solubility in scCO2 and silica-supported catalysts.

Synthesis, structure, and first-principles calculations of [TcBr2(PMe3)4] and [Tc2Br4(PMe3)4] complexes

The compounds TcBr2(PMe3)4 and Tc2Br4(PMe3)4 were synthesized from TcBr3 and their structures solved by single-crystal XRD and DFT calculations.

The fate of silver ions in the photochemical synthesis of gold nanorods: an Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure Analysis

Water-soluble gold nanorods were synthesized using a silver-ion mediated photochemical route under UV irradiation. EXAFS measurements on the Ag K-edge were performed in order to investigate the fate of the silver ions.

Versatile binding behaviour of 4,6-dimethyl-1,2,3-triazolo[4,5-d]-pyrimidin-5,7-dionato in the presence of bipyrimidine. Supramolecular H-bond architectures

Complexes containing the ligands 4,6-dimethyl-1,2,3-triazolo-[4,5-d]-pyrimidin-5,7-dionato and bipyrimidine and the metal ions Zn(II), Cd(II) (dinuclear) or Cu(II) (1D polymer). Three binding modes observed for the triazolopyrimidine ligand: N1- and N2-monodentate and N1,N2-bridging.

Stable N-bridged diiron (IV) phthalocyanine cation radical complexes: synthesis and properties

Oxidation of N-bridged diiron phthalocyanine with tBuOOH in CH2X2 (X = Cl, Br) afforded N-bridged diiron (IV) phthalocyanine cation radical complexes, as evidenced by UV-vis, EPR, Mössbauer, XANES and EXAFS data.

A glycine ruthenium trithiacyclononane complex and its molecular encapsulation using cyclodextrins

Ru([9]aneS3)(glycine)Cl synthesised from Ru([9]aneS3)dmsoCl2 and glycine was tested against the MG-63 osteosarcoma cell line. Inclusion compounds with several cyclodextrins were also prepared and tested, but the best antitumour results were obtained for the pure ruthenium complex.

About this collection

This electronic collection of articles offers a selection of papers which were presented at the 10th FIGIPAS international conference, which took place in Palermo, Italy, from 1-4 July 2009.

About 300 scientists from 43 different countries gathered in sunny and beautiful Palermo to talk about inorganic chemistry during a 4 day meeting. This year's conference included two new themes, renewable energy and global sustainability. Undoubtedly, the focus on modern chemistry and the multi-disciplinary character of this meeting is one of the key points contributing to its success.

The enjoyable lectures and stimulating chemistry, together with the beautiful landscape, amazing food and the Mediterranean warmth that only the Bay of Palermo can offer, made the first week of July an enjoyable time for those lucky enough to be there.

Dalton Transactions is proud to present the fruits of those discussions in this electronic collection. Now it is your turn to enjoy them.
