Perylene diimide with solid-state NIR luminescence for imaging of latent fingerprints (sweat pores)

Abstract

We have reported a novel dibromo allyl-substituted perylene diimide (PDI 2) as a near-IR emitter with 99.53% color purity and φ = 0.0385. PDI 2 showed a morphology of a thick film (4–5 nm) with holes of radius 20–40 nm and a depth of 4–7 nm. PDI 2 has been used for the daylight and fluorescence imaging of latent fingerprints up to levels 1–3 on different colored porous and non-porous surfaces.
