From energy harvesting to topologically insulating behavior: ABO3-type epitaxial thin films and superlattices

Abstract

ABO3-type perovskite oxides have great potential for application due to their rich and diverse chemical and physical properties. Owing to the continuous progress of materials engineering, significant achievements in perovskite growth and implementation of various device demonstrations have been made. In this review, we have restricted ourselves first to energy-related applications of perovskites in water splitting, solar cells, and supercapacitors. Second, we show the structure design of ABO3-superlattices, and theoretical predictions and experimental efforts on two-dimensional electron gas, interface superconductivity, and topologically insulating states. Finally some challenges and future research directions in these innovative fields are pointed out.
