Synergistic effect of the Pd–Ni bimetal/carbon nanofiber composite catalyst in Suzuki coupling reaction

Abstract

The palladium-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction is one of the most efficient strategies for constructing a carbon–carbon bond. In recent years, bimetallic catalysts have become candidates for the Suzuki coupling reaction. In this work, palladium–nickel without any ligands was successfully loaded on carbon nanofibers as a kind of bimetallic catalyst for the Suzuki coupling reaction. Introducing nickel atoms into the catalyst not only decreased the preparation cost but also enhanced the catalytic ability due to the synergistic effect of Pd and Ni. The Pd1Ni4/CNF shows stable catalytic activity and could be reused ten times. Possible mechanisms are also proposed.
