Hydrogen production from water using a bis(imino)pyridine molybdenum electrocatalyst†
Abstract
In 5.0 M H2O/acetonitrile, [(Ph2PPrPDI)MoO][PF6]2 produces H2 with 96% Faradaic efficiency at −2.5 V vs. Fc+/0 and a rate of 55 s−1. Reactivity studies and isolation of a Mo(II) oxo intermediate, (Ph2PPrPDI)MoO, shed light on the H2 evolution mechanism.
