Acetylide generation and coupling on electron-rich Ru3 clusters
Abstract
Thermolysis of [Ru3(CO)10(Ph2PCCBut)2] (1a) gives the 48-e cluster [Ru3(μ-η1,η2-CCBut)2(μ-PPh2)2(CO)6] (4), which readily adds CO or PPh3 to give the corresponding 50-e clusters [Ru3(μ-η1,η2-CCBut)2(μ-PPh2)2(CO)6(L)] (L = CO, 5a, PPh3, 6) while thermolysis of [Ru3(CO)10(Ph2PCCPh)(Ph2PCCR)] (R = Ph, 1b; But1c) affords 50-e [Ru3(μ-PPh2)(μ-η1,η2-CCPh)(μ-η1,η2-CCR)(CO)7] (5b, 5c) directly, which convert smoothly to the 48-e diyne clusters [Ru3(μ-η2-PhC2CCR)(μ-PPh2)2(CO)7] (7b, 7c). In the case of [Ru3(CO)10(Ph2PCCPh)2] the compound {Ru2[η1,η1 : η2,η2-PhCC(PPh2)CCPh](CO)5}(μ-PPh2)[Ru(CO)3] (8) is also obtained.
