Baeyer–Villiger oxidations with a difference: molecular sieve redox catalysts for the low-temperature conversion of ketones to lactones

Abstract

Redox molecular sieve catalysts MAlPO-36 (M = Mn or Co) convert cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, 2-methylcyclohexanone and adamantan-2-one to their corresponding lactones with high efficiency (selectivities in excess of 90%, conversions in the range 50 to 85%), in the presence of O2 and PhCHO as sacrificial oxidant.
