Photometric method for the determination of Pb2+ followingseparation and preconcentration using a templated ion-exchange resin

Abstract

A novel Pb2+ ion-exchange resin based on a Pb2+ ion templated polymer was used for removal and preconcentration of Pb2+ from tap and sea-water. The results from the templated resin were compared with results obtained using three other ion-exchange resins: Chelex-100, thiol-based Duolite GT-73 and a proprietary NASA polyacrylic acid resin. The ion templated resin, being most selective toward Pb2+ ions, provides a fast and virtually interference-free preconcentration procedure. The templated resin also offers an opportunity for a field-ready test kit for the determination of Pb2+ in environmental samples based on colorimetric analysis.
