Extraction and Fate of Phenols in Soil

Abstract

Four phenols were slurry spiked onto a well characterised soil and extracted at time intervals over a period of 187 days. The extracts were analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. It was noted that soil ageing had a profound effect on the recovery of 1-naphthol. Possible sorption mechanisms for 1-naphthol are discussed.
