Extraction–spectrophotometric determination of silver in ores, electronics flow-solders and white metals with 2-carboxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone
Abstract
A new extraction–spectrophotometric method for the determination of AgI(in the range of 10–70 µg), based on the extraction of the anionic complex of AgI with 2-carboxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (2CBTSC) into a solution of octylmethylammonium chloride (Adogen-464) in toluene, is described. The absorbance of the complex in the organic phase was measured at 345 nm. The method was satisfactorily applied to the determination of silver in ores, flow-solders and white metals.
The extracted product was studied spectrophotometrically and the formation of an ionic association between the silver–2CBTSC complex (2 Ag:2) reagent and (2 Adogen-464) in the toluene phase was postulated.
