Column chromatographic preconcentration and separation of cobalt in a vitamin, an alloy and an ore using chelating resin containing acenaphthenequinone monoxime supported over naphthalene
Abstract
A sensitive, economical and rapid method of preconcentration and separation of cobalt has been developed by using a solid chelating resin, acenaphthenequinone monoxime (AQM), supported on naphthalene. Cobalt forms a reddish-yellow complex with AQM supported on naphthalene in a column at pH 8–10 with a flow rate of 1 ml min–1. The metal complex and naphthalene are dissolved out from the column with 10 ml of trichloromethane and the absorbance is measured at 340 nm against a reagent blank. Beer's law is obeyed up to 5.89 mg l–1. The molar absorptivity coefficient is 1.36 × 104 m2 mol–1.
