Isotopic selectivity in infrared multiphoton dissociation of CF3CH(D)BrCl

Abstract

The infrared multiphoton dissociation of CF3CDBrCl in the presence of equimolar CF3CHBrCl was investigated with attention to the isotopic selectivity of the reaction. Large selectivity was found at pressures lower than 3 Torr [1 Torr =(101 325/760) Pa]. Several products were obtained, and the molar fraction of deuterium-containing species (deuterium fraction) of each product was measured. The products were classified into two groups with respect to the pressure and fluence dependences of the deuterium fraction. A reaction scheme, consistent with the experimental results, is proposed.
