Dalton communications. Synthesis and structure of a stable selenodiimide complex

Abstract

The stable selenodiimide complex SnCl4[(ButN[double bond, length half m-dash])2Se]1 has been prepared from Se[NBut(SiMe3)]2 and SnCl4, and also by treating the unstable (ButN[double bond, length half m-dash])2Se (obtained from NButH2 and SeCl4) with SnCl4; the crystal structure of 1·2thf indicates appreciable Se[double bond, length half m-dash]N double-bond character [171.0(3) pm] but also shows that the selenium atom is unexpectedly co-ordinated by the two tetrahydrofuran (thf) oxygens.
