The use of the novel oxidising reagent triphenylarsine diiodine in the reaction with dicobalt octacarbonyl to produce a new type of complex [(Ph3Asl)2l][Co(AsPh3)l3]

Abstract

Ph3AsI2 oxidises Co2(CO)8 in a 6 : 1 molar ratio to produce the novel complex [(Ph3AsI)2 I][Co(AsPh3)I3] in quantitative yield, the first crystallographically characterised complex containing a cobalt(II)-tertiary arsine bond and the unusual linear cation [Ph3As-I-I-I-AsPh3]+
