Matrix effect corrections for the quantitative X-ray fluorescence determination of iron using scattered radiation
Abstract
Scattered radiation was used as the internal standard in order to correct matrix effects for the determination of Fe by X-ray fluorescence. The Kα, the Compton Kα of the Rh tube and the 14° 2θ; continuum background were tested. The first- and last-named scattered radiation were found to correct the matrix effects with better standard deviations and correlation coefficients than the fit without correction. The improved functions were fitted to non-linear polynomial equations. The results suggest that the characteristic scattered radiation of the X-ray tube must be taken into account when determining certain analytes.
