Organometallic oxides: preparation of [{(η-C5Me5)NbCl2}2(µ-Cl)(µ-OH)(µ-O)] and its reduction to the diamagnetic trinuclear clusters [{(η-C5Me5)Nb({µ-Cl)(µ-O)}3]+ and [{(η-C5Me5)Nb}3({µ-Cl)2(µ-OH)(µ-O)3]+
Abstract
Oxidation of [(η-C5Me5)2NbCl2] with O2 in the presence of H2O gave [{η-C5Me5)NbCl2}2(µ-Cl)((µ-OH)(µ-O)]1 and polymeric [Nb2Cl2O4(thf)3]x(thf = tetrahydrofuran); reduction of 1 with Zn–ZnO gave diamagnetic [{(η-C5Me5)Nb(µ-Cl)(µ-O)}3][{(η-C5Me5)Nb}3(µ-Cl)2(µ-OH)(µ-O)3][Zn4Cl10], the structure of which was determined by X-ray diffraction.
