Aromatic acylation/reduction: an efficient Friedel–Crafts alkylation reaction

Abstract

Friedel–Crafts acylation of aromatic compounds with branched or polyfunctionalised aryl halides followed by in situ reduction of the resulting carbonyl–Lewis acid complex with triethylsilane or polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) polymer gives alkylated aromatic products in high yield.
