Bond-polarisability tensors for the group IVB elements

Abstract

A valence-optical scheme of additive polarisability tensors is presented for bonds of the Group IVB elements. Constituent bond additivity is affected but not seriously impaired by the effects of mutual induction over the substantial range of mono- and poly-halogenated compounds studied. Regular trends are observed in the bond-polarisability anisotropies and in the directional polarisabilities.
