Transference number measurements of copper(I) perchlorate in binary mixtures of acetonitrile with water, methanol, acetone and N,N-dimethylformamide at 25 °C
Abstract
Transference numbers of ClO–4 and Cu+ in copper(I) perchlorate have been measured in the concentration range 0.01–0.12 mol dm–3 in acetonitrile (AN) and in binary mixtures of AN with water (H2O), methanol (MeOH), acetone (AC) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 25 °C by the modified Hittorf method. The cation transference number shows a significant variation with the solvent composition, but decreases slightly with increasing salt concentration. The limiting cation transference numbers (t°+) in various solvent systems have been evaluated by the Longsworth method of extrapolation. Limiting ion conductances (λ°i) for Cu+ and ClO–4 in these solvent systems have also been reported.
