Determination of sulphide sulphur and total sulphur in lead-zinc concentrates and related smelter products by an evolution technique
Abstract
An evolution method for the determination of sulphide sulphur and total sulphur in lead-zinc concentrates and plant process samples such as lead sinter, charge mix, lead blast furnace slag, zinc calcine and leach residues is proposed. Barium chloride was found to bind sulphates effectively thereby facilitating the selective determination of sulphides using hydriodic acid in the presence of mercury metal. A reducing mixture of hypophosphorous, hydriodic and hydrochloric acids was used for the determination of total sulphur.
