Aldehyde and enol contents of 9-formylfluorene

Abstract

In aqueous solution at 25 °C 9-formylfluorene is present mainly as its enol (72%, KE= 17) and hydrate (24%, Kh= 5.6); the unstable aldehyde (4%) may be generated for kinetic and equilibrium measurements by reaction of its ethanethiol hemithioacetal with iodine.
