High-resolution laser photofragment spectroscopy of CH+
Abstract
High-resolution laser photofragment spectra of the CH+ ion in the range 16 125–18 708 cm–1 have been recorded by the detection of C+ ions, using a laser/ion-beam apparatus. Twenty nine transitions from levels of the ground X1Σ+ state to quasibound rotational levels (shape resonances) of the A1Π state were observed at a resolution of ca. 100 MHz. Predissociation linewidths were measured and are compared with the results of recent calculations. Additional resonances involving levels with triplet character were also recorded and their origin is discussed.
