Electron capture in single crystals of triphenylmethylarsonium iodide. Electron spin resonance detection of Ph3AsI

Abstract

A study of the angular variation of the e.s.r. signals obtained with an X-irradiated single crystal of Ph3As+CH3I(g-tensor, 75As and 127I hyperfine tensors) showed that the radiogenic adduct Ph3As⋯ĊH3 gave rise to the arsoranyl radical Ph3AsI. The mechanism which leads from Ph3As+CH3 to Ph3AsI, via the successive formation of Ph3ÅsCH3 and Ph3As⋯ĊH3, is discussed.
