Novel transition metal-containing nematic and smectic liquid crystals

Abstract

A new class of metal-containing liquid crystals, comprising a mesogenic organic ligand (nitrile or amine) co-ordinated to Pd, Pt, Rh, and Au, have been prepared and characterised.
