Nucleophilic addition at the bridging ethynyl ligand in [Os3H(µ-3-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CH)(CO)9] and hydrolytic cleavage of the carbon–carbon triple bond

Abstract

The addition of ethanol, ammonia, diethylamine, pyridine etc. at [Os3H(µ3-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CH)(CO)9] gives clusters containing the new triply bridging ligands EtOCCH, CCHOEt, NH2CCH, Et2NCCH etc., while the reaction of water with [Os3H23-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CH)(CO)9]+ leads to [Os3H33-CH)(CO)9] and [Os3H33-CCHO)(CO)9] by nucleophilic attack at the α- and β-carbon atoms respectively.
