Separation of beryllium(II) from other metallic ions with aliquat 336S by extraction chromatography of its malonato complex

Abstract

A novel method was developed for the extraction chromatographic separation of beryllium from 0.01 M malonic acid at pH 5.5 with Aliquat 336S as the stationary phase. Various mineral acids were used as stripping agents. Useful separations of beryllium from molybdenum(VI), zirconium, thorium and uranium(VI) in sulphate media and iron, uranium(VI) and thallium(III) in chloride media were developed. Beryllium was also separated from other elements by selective extraction. The method was extended to the analysis of beryl.
