Spectrophotometric determination of sulbactam by reaction with 1,2,4-triazole

Abstract

A simple and rapid spectrophotometric assay method for the determination of sulbactam has been developed. The method is based on the reaction with 2 M 1,2,4-triazole in solution (pH 10.0) for 15 min at 50 °C followed by measurement of ultraviolet absorbance (at 326 nm) of the reaction product. The method is quantitative for sulbactam concentrations down to 0.2 µg ml–1, and specific to intact sulbactam without interference of penicillins, cephalosporins and degradation products of sulbactam.
