Rate coefficient for the reaction of BrO with HO2 at 303 K

Abstract

The kinetics of the reaction of BrO with HO2 have been investigated using the photolysis of O3 in the presence of Br2, H2 and O2 as a source of these radicals. The molecular-modulation–u.v.-absorption technique was employed to observe directly the behaviour of both BrO and HO2 in the modulated photolysis system and to obtain a value for the rate coefficient for the reaction BrO + HO2→ HOBr + O2(3a), → HBr + O3(3b) at 303 K. The value obtained was k3= 5+5–3× 10–12 cm3 molecule–1 s–1.
