Consequences of transient polarization in binary mixtures. Correlation of far-infrared absorption and adiabatic compressibility
Abstract
Far-infrared studies of binary mixtures of certain aromatic compounds with carbon tetrachloride and cyclohexane are reported. The absorption data can be represented as the sum of two contributions, one associated with collisional polarization of like components and the other with excess polarization in the mixture. The variation of the excess absorption with composition shows a correlation with trends observed in the excess adiabatic compressibility, indicating that one factor leading to non-ideal behaviour in these systems could be interaction between these transient dipolar species.
