Temperature dependence of optical absorption of a solvated electron

Abstract

The theory of the temperature shift in the absorption spectrum of a solvated electron is discussed. The theory is based on the concept of the interaction of an electron bound in a zero-range potential with long-wavelength classical vibrations of the medium. The theory is compared with data for the absorption spectra of es in methyl alcohol measured over a wide range of temperatures. Satisfactory quantitative agreement has been found.
