Mechanism of water substitution in the trigonal-bipyramidal complex [Cu(tren)(OH2)]2+(tren = 2,2′,2″-triaminotriethylamine): evidence for an associative mechanism

Abstract

The mechanism of substitution of water in the title complex by a series of pyridine derivatives has been studied using temperature-jump relaxation spectrophotometry. The dependence of kf and kb on the nature of the ligand and the values of the activation parameters offer strong support for an associative mechanism.
