Measurement of phenol in urine by the method of Van Haaften and Sie: a critical appraisal

Abstract

The method of Van Haaften and Sie for the measurement of urinary phenol gives better than 80% of the expected response for conjugates of phenol. However, the response is strongly dependent on instrumental conditions and safeguards must be built into the method to ensure that hydrolysis of conjugates is satisfactory.
