Enthalpy of dilution and enthalpy of mixing of sodium carboxymethylcellulose with sodium chloride
Abstract
The enthalpy of dilution of sodium carboxymethylcellulose has been determined and the results give good agreement with the predictions of the infinite line charge theory. The value of the linear charge parameter found to apply for the dilution experiments has been used in comparing experimental enthalpies of mixing of sodium carboxymethylcellulose with sodium chloride and the predictions of the same theory. Satisfactory agreement between experiment and theory is found only at the lowest polyelectrolyte and salt concentrations.
