Selective formation of propene from CO + H2 or C2H4 with Fe3(CO)12 supported on inorganic oxides. mechanistic implication in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis

Abstract

When a catalyst derived from Fe3(CO)12 supported on magnesia is treated either with CO + H2 or C2H4 propene is formed selectively; this can be explained on the basis of a carbene + olefin ⇌ metallacyclobutane mechanism.
