Reaction of [M3(CO)12](M = Ru or Os) with the chalconide elements; X-ray crystal and molecular structure of [Os4(CO)12H2Se2]

Abstract

Reaction of [Os3(CO)12] with Xn(X = S, Se, or Te) in n-octane under reflux yields [Os3(CO)9H2X], [Os3(CO)9X2], and [Os4(CO)12H2X2], but a CO/H2 pressure of 35 atm is required to prepare the ruthenium analogues [Ru3(CO)9H2X] and [Ru3(CO)9X2]; an X-ray analysis of [Os4(CO)12H2Se2] shows that it has a novel trigonal prismatic Os4Se2 core.
