Study of nitrosyl cyanide by microwave spectroscopy

Abstract

Microwave spectra have been measured for NOCH, 15NOCN, NOC15N, NO13CN and N18OCN. The inertial defect value of the normal species establishes the planarity of the molecule, and the derived rs structure revels a distinct bend at teh carbon atom.

The dipole moment of NOCN and the quadrupole coupling constants for both nitrogen atoms have been determined. The results of some theoretical calculations relating to the geometry and dipole moment are presented.

Intensities of vibrational satellite lines in the spectra show that the two lowest modes are near 240 and 270 cm–1.
