Long-lived parent negative ions formed via nuclear-excited feshbach resonances. Part 5.—Effective number of degrees of freedom participating in the sharing of the ion's excess energy

Abstract

The autodetachment lifetime of the long-lived parent negative ion of hexafluorobenzene (C6F6) has been calculated theoretically and found to decrease with increasing electron energy. A comparison of the calculated and the measured lifetimes of the C6F–*6 ion indicated that only ∼30 % of the possible modes of vibration effectively participate in the sharing of the ion's excess energy.
