Kinetic spectroscopy in the far vacuum ultraviolet. Part 3.—Oscillator strengths for the 3S, 4S and 5S3S–2p43P2 transitions in atomic oxygen

Abstract

Line absorption measurements for ns3S–2p43PJ transitions have been made as a function of ground state oxygen O 2p43PJ atom concentration. The results gave the following values for the oscillator strengths (ƒik) of the ns3S–2p43P2 transitions of oxygen: (4.5 ± 1.0)× 10–2(n= 3, λ 130.22 nm); (5.9 ± 1.4)× 10–3(n= 4, λ 103.92nm); (1.5 ± 0.4)× 10–3(n= 5, λ 97.65nm). The agreement with the literature of the ƒ-value for n= 3 is good; no previous measurements for the n= 4 and n= 5 transitions appear to have been reported.
