Low temperature crystalline phase transition in some elpasolite-hexachlorides

Abstract

A crystalline phase transition has been observed between room temperature and 77 K in certain members of the series Cs2NaLnCl6(Ln = lanthanide ion). Optical spectroscopy and e.p.r. results are used to define the possible low temperature space groups. The possibility that an order-disorder transformation involving the caesium ions as the cause of this transition is discussed.
