Kinetics of the bromate–iodide and iodate–iodide reactions by pH-stat techniques
Abstract
Buffer-free pH-stat methods were applied to kinetic investigations of the iodate–iodide and bromate–iodide reactions in the pH range 3–4 yielding the rate laws v′=k′0[H+]2[I–]2[IO–3] and v=k0[H+]2[I–][BrO–3]+k1[H+][I–][BrO–3]. In addition, for [I–] and [IO–3] of the order of 10–2M(M= mol dm–3) the rate of reaction was 4th order in [I–], 2nd order in [IO–3], and the order with respect to [H+] increased from 1st towards 3rd as [H+] decreased from 8 × 10–7M to 4 × 10–8M.
