Derivation and interpretation of the spectra of aggregates. Part 3.—Prediction analytical study of the spectrum of pyronine Y in aqueous solution
Abstract
Prediction analytical techniques have been used to design experiments concerned with the visible absorption spectrum of the xanthene dye Pyronine Y in aqueous solution. The concentration dependence of the spectrum observed was attributed to the existence of an equilibrium between monomer and dimer dye species. The interrelation between the dimerisation constant and the absorptivities of the dye species in solution was studied. Optimisation of the experimental conditions for the purposes of obtaining species spectra was considered. Subsequent measurements have corroborated the prediction analytical results.
