Preparation and crystal structure of bis-(2,2′-bipyridyl)copper(II) bis[dichlorocuprate(I)]

Abstract

The title compound has been prepared and its structure determined by X-ray diffraction. Crystals are triclinic, a= 9·40(2), b= 10·68(3), c= 15·34(4)Åα= 122·15°, β= 103·67(13)°, γ= 105·93(12)°, Z= 2, space group P[1 with combining macron]. The structure was determined from diffractometer data by Patterson and Fourier methods, and refined by full-matrix least-squares techniques to R 0·048 for 3184 observed reflections. The structure contains isolated linear CuICl2 ions, trigonal-bipyramidal CuII(bipy)2Cl groups, and infinite chains of alternating linear CuICl2 groups and CuICl4, double tetrahedra.
